The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existence. – Albert Einstein

Here we are the beginning of a new week. I had a most remarkable weekend. I got to visit an older friend who’s going through the aging process with grace and pain. It seems they are deeply intertwined. It was so great to visit him. I’m grateful for the opportunity because he still believes all these years of life later that people are inherently good. He believes we all try. He’s a Viet Nam Veteran and he did lots of great work post war time to do good in community. And he makes me believe too.

I went grocery shopping and ran into a woman I know. She was deeply concerned about the increase in the price of many food items. She was working hard to spend $30 on food. She wondered how long she’d be able to drink coffee. Because I don’t drink coffee, I had no idea how much the price has gone up. I can’t get the conversation out of my heart.

I read an article in the May Harvard Business Review on “Ask Smarter Questions in the Face of Uncertainty.”  The questions are:

  • What decision today will still make sense a year from now?
  • If a year from now this decision was used as an example of our leadership, what would it teach?
  • What if this isn’t a storm, what if it’s the climate?
  • What’s the cost of waiting?

I want you to know our nonprofit leaders are asking themselves these questions all the time about what services they can and must keep in a changing environment. We will not be able to maintain all the services we have now. And we’re not meeting all the needs today.

We need your help, your input, your ideas, and your questions as we move forward together as a community committed to being there for people. Thanks for all you do!

Onward.
