“As society sees what women can do, as women see what women can do, there will be more women out there doing things, and we’ll all be better for it.”  Sandra Day O’Connor

Last week, our Valley lost two great women leaders deeply committed to caring for those around them. Both led in different ways and left so much good behind.

Nick and Joni Parsons

Joni Parsons passed away on May 13, 2026, following a life filled with love and connection to those who knew her and to so many young minds who will remember her from their schooling. Joni’s career in education in the Eagle Point School District helped fill young minds with great character, developing a desire for learning that will last their whole lives, and she went on to a career in administration helping others to hone their own commitment to education. Joni leaves behind a loving husband and family. We are better for her presence. Our hearts and heads were filled with Joni’s care for community and young minds.

Bobbie Audell left us on the same day. Bobbie’s long career in Josephine County left full bellies and hearts from her time with Josephine County Foodshare and the United Way of Josephine County. She leaves behind a loving husband and family. Bobbie went with a group of us to rebuild Miss Alice’s house after Hurricane Rita.

Her joy and love of community were so present for all of us. And our hearts and bellies were filled with her love and care.

The Rogue Valley was fed, loved, educated, and cared for by both these great women leaders. Thanks for showing up in our world! God’s speed and gratitude to their families for sharing them with us on the journey.

Onward,
